In late 2001, the former Gerling Credit Insurance Group and international credit insurer NCM merged, forming Gerling NCM.
The companies both had a long tradition in the international credit insurance industry. NCM has been market leader in the Dutch credit insurance industry since 1925, and a partner of the Dutch government since 1932 while the Gerling Credit Insurance Group, formed by the Gerling family, had been operating since 1954.
Following acquisition of the company by major shareholders Deutsche Bank and Swiss Re, the company was renamed Atradius on 5 January 2004.
